Getting Started with Xero

If you are new to Xero, these guides will help you get up and running quickly:

Common Tasks

Creating and Sending Invoices

To create an invoice in Xero, go to Business > Invoices > New Invoice. Fill in the customer details, add your line items, and set the due date. You can send the invoice directly from Xero via email, or download it as a PDF.

Reconciling Bank Transactions

Bank reconciliation is one of the most important tasks in Xero. Go to Accounting > Bank Accounts and select your account. Xero will suggest matches for each transaction – review them and click OK to confirm, or create new transactions as needed.

Recording Expenses and Receipts

You can record expenses by going to Business > Bills to Pay > New Bill. For a faster workflow, we recommend using Dext to photograph receipts on your phone – they will be automatically pushed into Xero as draft bills.

Running Reports

Xero offers a range of financial reports. Go to Accounting > Reports to access your Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Aged Receivables, and more. You can customise date ranges and export reports to PDF or Excel.

VAT Returns

Xero is Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliant. If your business is VAT registered, you can prepare and submit your VAT return directly from Xero under Accounting > Reports > VAT Return. We recommend reviewing the return with us before submission to ensure everything is correct.

Xero Training Videos

Xero provides a comprehensive library of free training resources:
